Well Pumps
When your home runs on a private well, a pump or pressure tank problem means no showers, no toilets and no water for the animals. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Delaware repairs and replaces well pumps, pressure tanks and well water systems across rural Delaware and Union counties, and we answer the phone 24/7.
We're The Punctual Plumber. If we're late, we pay you $5 a minute, up to $300.
Low pressure, no water, a pump that won't shut off, or a breaker that keeps tripping. We check the pump, pressure switch, control box, wiring and tank, find the real problem, and fix it.
We replace submersible and jet pumps, sized for your well's depth, how much water it produces, and how much water your household uses. The right pump for a low-yield well is not the same as the right pump for a strong one.
A waterlogged or failing pressure tank makes the pump turn on and off constantly, which burns it out early. We test and replace pressure tanks, pressure switches and gauges, and set the system to the right pressure.
Most well water around here is hard, and a lot of it carries iron or a sulfur smell. We install water softeners, iron filters and whole-home filtration so your water is easier on your fixtures, appliances and water heater.
Two very different kinds of wells. In much of the western part of Delaware County, wells are drilled into limestone and usually produce plenty of water. Through the middle of the county, many wells are drilled into shale that yields only a few gallons per minute. On a low-yield well, the pump, pressure tank and settings have to be matched carefully, or you'll run the well dry and burn out the pump.
Hard water, iron and sulfur. Well water in central Ohio is often very hard, much harder than treated city water, and many wells also have iron (orange stains) or hydrogen sulfide (rotten-egg smell). That's hard on pumps, pressure switches, water heaters and fixtures. Treatment protects all of it.
Growth meets country living. Many homes in Berkshire, Brown, Kingston, Trenton and Harlem townships, and out toward Ostrander, Richwood and Marysville, still rely on private wells, even as new neighborhoods go up nearby. We work on both.
We serve well owners in Delaware, Sunbury, Galena, Ostrander, Richwood, Marysville and the rural areas in between.

The most common causes are a tripped breaker, a failed pressure switch, a waterlogged pressure tank or a worn-out pump. Check the breaker first. If it keeps tripping or the pump won't run, call us at (740) 520-2665.
Most submersible pumps last 10 to 15 years. Short-cycling from a bad pressure tank, hard water and low-yield wells running dry can all shorten that.
That's called short-cycling, and it's usually a waterlogged pressure tank or a bad pressure switch. It wears the pump out fast, so it's worth fixing right away.
Usually not. That smell is hydrogen sulfide, which is common in central Ohio well water. If it's only on the hot side, the water heater's anode rod may be the cause. Water treatment usually solves it.
Yes. We recommend testing once a year, and any time the taste, smell or color changes. Testing tells us what treatment, if any, your home needs.
Yes. We service jet pumps on shallower wells and submersible pumps on deeper drilled wells.
