Water Treatment
White crust on faucets, spots on dishes, orange stains in the toilet, or a rotten-egg smell from the tap. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Delaware tests your water and installs the right treatment for it, whether you're on Del-Co, city water or a private well in Delaware or Union County.
We're The Punctual Plumber. If we're late, we pay you $5 a minute, up to $300.
Every recommendation starts with a test. We check hardness, iron and other common problems so you only pay for the treatment your water actually needs.
A softener removes the calcium and magnesium that cause scale. That means less buildup in your water heater, tankless unit, dishwasher and fixtures, less soap and detergent, and no more white crust on everything. We install, repair and service softeners.
Many wells around here have iron that stains sinks, tubs and laundry orange, or hydrogen sulfide that smells like rotten eggs. Iron and sulfur filtration takes care of both before the water reaches your fixtures.
Whole-home carbon filtration reduces chlorine taste and odor and sediment at every tap in the house.
A reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink gives you clean, great-tasting drinking and cooking water without buying bottled water.
Treated water is still hard. Del-Co Water softens its water at the plant to about 7 to 8 grains per gallon of hardness, which is still moderately hard. Over time that's enough to build scale in water heaters, tankless units and fixtures.
Well water is a different story. Private wells in central Ohio draw from limestone and shale, and the water is often much harder than treated water. Many wells also carry iron, manganese or hydrogen sulfide. The right setup depends on your test results, which is why we test first.
Protect your equipment. Hard water is one of the biggest reasons water heaters and tankless units fail early here. A softener protects everything downstream of it.
We test water and install treatment systems in Delaware, Powell, Lewis Center, Sunbury, Galena, Ostrander, Orange Township, Shawnee Hills, Marysville, Richwood and the surrounding communities.

Almost certainly. Del-Co water is moderately hard at about 7 to 8 grains per gallon, and most well water in our area is much harder. A quick test tells you exactly where you stand.
You don't have to have one, but many homeowners choose one to protect their water heater and fixtures and cut down on scale and spotting. We'll test your water and give you an honest recommendation.
That's hydrogen sulfide, common in well water. If it's only on the hot side, the water heater's anode rod may be the cause. If it's on both, a sulfur filter usually solves it.
A softener can handle small amounts of iron. Higher iron levels need a dedicated iron filter ahead of the softener. Testing tells us which you need.
A quality softener typically lasts 10 to 15 years or more with basic maintenance, like keeping salt in the brine tank.
Yes, for most people. If you're on a low-sodium diet, a reverse osmosis system at the kitchen sink removes most of the added sodium.
