Unionville Center was platted in 1847, got its post office the next year and incorporated as a village in 1879. Its best-known native son is Charles Warren Fairbanks, the 26th Vice President of the United States, who was born near here in 1852. The village still celebrates him every May with the Charles W. Fairbanks Festival. With about 240 residents, it's one of the smallest villages in Union County, surrounded by the farms of Darby Township and the Big Darby Creek valley. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Delaware covers the village and the township around it.

Unionville Center has one of the oldest housing stocks we serve. Census estimates for the village show close to half of its homes were built before 1940, and the median home dates to the late 1940s. Houses that age often have galvanized supply pipe that narrows with rust, cast-iron or clay drains, and plumbing that has been patched by several owners over the decades. Darby Township around the village is newer, with about a quarter of its homes built since 2010.
Union County has roughly 9,000 private water systems, and rural Darby Township homes commonly rely on wells and on-site septic systems. Well water can carry hardness and iron that shorten the life of water heaters and fixtures. Because the village sits in the Big Darby Creek watershed, we take care to keep drain and septic lines in good working order.
In a village this old, a small leak is often a sign of a bigger story. When we fix one joint, we look at the pipe on either side of it and tell you honestly how much life is left. Sometimes a repair is the right call. Sometimes replacing a run of pipe saves you from paying for the same visit twice. You'll get good, better and best options, each with a clear price, and you choose.
Older homes often have pipes in exterior walls, crawlspaces and enclosed porches. Before a cold snap, open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls, insulate exposed pipe and drain outdoor faucets. If a pipe freezes, shut off the water and call us before you try to thaw it. In spring, test the sump pump and check buried downspout lines so meltwater moves away from the foundation.

Hugo arrived at my house within the window of time I was expecting which was helpful. I could tell he knew what he was talking about. He gave me several options including an option to finance the replacement of my hot water heater. In short, he was kind, courteous and professional.
Galvanized pipe is dull gray steel with threaded fittings. A magnet will stick to it. If your water pressure has dropped over the years or your water looks rusty when you first turn it on, galvanized pipe may be the cause.
Not always. We can replace the worst sections first and plan the rest over time. We'll show you what we see and give you options with prices.
Yes. We repair and replace well pumps, pressure switches and pressure tanks, and we can add treatment for hard or iron-heavy water.
Stop using water, then call us. We'll check whether the clog is in the house, in the line to the tank or beyond it, and point you to a septic service if the tank needs pumping.
Yes. That includes the village of Unionville Center and the surrounding areas of Darby Township.
