Plumbing Services in Berkshire Township, OH

Your Berkshire Township Plumber

Berkshire Township was settled in 1806 by Col. Moses Byxbe, who named it after his old home in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. That New England influence still shows on the square in Sunbury, where the 1868 Town Hall stands. Sunbury grew up as a stagecoach stop and became a city in 2021. To the south, the village of Galena sits where Big Walnut Creek and Little Walnut Creek meet at the north end of Hoover Reservoir. Between and around them, new neighborhoods keep going up. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Delaware serves the township, Galena and Sunbury.

We're The Punctual Plumber. A late arrival costs us $5 a minute, up to $300, paid to you.

The Berkshire Township Plumbing Landscape

Berkshire is one of the fastest-changing places we serve. Census estimates put the median home in the township at about 2013, and roughly six in ten homes were built since 2010. Newer homes have fewer old-pipe problems, but they come with their own list: builder-grade water heaters and fixtures, sump pumps with no backup, high water pressure and new owners who want a softener. There's also a small core of older homes, about 7 percent built before 1940, in and around the older parts of Galena and Sunbury.

The township lists Del-Co Water and the Delaware County Regional Sewer District as its utilities, though service depends on your address. Del-Co's water runs moderately hard, roughly 7 to 8 grains per gallon. Homes outside the sewer district's reach use septic systems. Hoover Reservoir, just south of Galena, supplies the City of Columbus, not local taps.

Berkshire Township Local Insight

A brand-new house doesn't mean you'll never need a plumber. In the first few years, we often find water pressure set too high, no expansion tank on the water heater, or a sump pump with no backup in a basement the owners plan to finish. Fixing those early is cheaper than fixing the damage later. On every visit, our plumbers test pressure and check your water heater and sump pump, then explain what they found in plain language with up-front prices.

Seasonal Plumbing in Berkshire Township

New lawns and fresh grading settle over the first few winters, so check that downspouts and buried drain lines still carry water away from the foundation. Before the first freeze, disconnect hoses and drain outdoor faucets. Test the sump pump each spring. If you plan to finish the basement, add a battery backup to the sump pump first.

FAQs

My home is new. Is it still under the builder's warranty?

Check your builder's paperwork first. If the warranty has ended or doesn't cover the problem, we can help, and we'll give you the price before any work begins.

Do I need a water softener in a new home?

You don't have to have one, but Del-Co water is moderately hard. A softener protects a new water heater, fixtures and appliances from scale. We'll test your water and tell you if it makes sense.

What water pressure should my home have?

Usually between 40 and 60 PSI. Higher pressure wears out fixtures, valves and appliance hoses faster. We test pressure on every visit.

Am I on sewer or septic?

Many newer subdivisions are on public sewer. Rural homes on larger lots often have septic. If you're unsure, check your property records, and we can help figure it out on a visit.

Do you serve Galena and Sunbury?

Yes. We serve Galena, Sunbury and all of Berkshire Township, ZIPs 43021 and 43074.
