Genoa Township was organized in 1816 on land from the U.S. Military District, set aside to pay Revolutionary War veterans. A resident suggested the name after Genoa, Italy, the birthplace of Columbus, though locals say it "juh-NO-uh." The first settler, Jeremiah Curtiss, ran mills on Big Walnut Creek, and the 1822 Marcus Curtiss Inn still stands on Sunbury Road. In the 1950s the valley became Hoover Reservoir, and around the turn of the century the township boomed. Today about 25,000 people live here, with Westerville and Galena addresses. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Delaware serves the whole township.

Genoa grew fast. The township issued permits for 3,810 new homes between 1998 and 2003, and census estimates show about three in four homes here were built in the 1990s and 2000s. Many of those houses still have their original water heater, sump pump, pressure-reducing valve and shutoff valves, all of which are reaching the end of their expected life. We see a lot of planned replacements and a steady stream of "it finally quit" calls.
The township lists Del-Co Water as its water provider. Its hardness runs about 7 to 8 grains per gallon, which counts as moderately hard. Most homes are on the Delaware County Regional Sewer District. A few older properties near the reservoir and along the rural roads still use septic systems. The township also notes that homes with lawn irrigation need an annual backflow test, so the backflow assembly and the plumbing around it should stay in good shape.
When a Genoa home is 20 to 25 years old, a lot of parts tend to wear out around the same time. Rather than replacing things one emergency at a time, our plumbers look at the whole system on each visit: water heater age, sump pump condition, water pressure and the shutoff valves under sinks and toilets. Then we tell you what needs attention now, what can wait and what each option costs, so you can plan instead of react.
Schedule the irrigation blowout and backflow test before the first freeze, then shut off and drain outdoor faucets. Homes near the reservoir catch a lot of wind, so insulate pipes along exterior walls and over garages. In late winter, test the sump pump and its backup. Flush the water heater yearly to clear the scale that hard water leaves behind.

No. Hoover Reservoir supplies the City of Columbus. Genoa Township homes get their water from Del-Co Water.
Original tank water heaters, sump pumps and pressure-reducing valves are often near the end of their life by now. Toilet fill valves, faucet cartridges and washing machine hoses also wear out. We'll check them and help you plan.
Genoa Township says homes with irrigation systems need an annual backflow test. If the assembly or the plumbing around it is leaking or damaged, we can repair it.
Yes. We work on the plumbing in the house and the drain line to the tank, and we'll tell you if the problem is further out in the septic system.
