Liberty Township has a claim no other township in the county can make. Capt. Nathan Carpenter arrived here on May 1, 1801, and he's recognized as the first settler of Delaware County. The county's first mill went up near his settlement in 1804, and Liberty Presbyterian Church, organized in 1810, still stands on Olentangy River Road. Two centuries later, Liberty is one of the county's most populated townships, wrapped around the City of Powell between the Olentangy River and the Columbus Zoo. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Delaware serves the township and Powell.
We're The Punctual Plumber, and we put our money where our mouth is. Run late, and we owe you $5 a minute, up to $300.
Most of Liberty Township was built in a hurry. Census estimates put the median home at about 2000, with more than half built in the 1990s and 2000s and steady building since. Many of those homes have reached the age when the original water heater, sump pump and pressure-reducing valve all need replacement. Larger homes with three or four bathrooms also have more supply lines, shutoff valves and fixtures to wear out.
Both the township and the City of Powell list Del-Co Water as the water provider and the Delaware County Regional Sewer District for sewer. Del-Co water runs about 7 to 8 grains per gallon of hardness, enough to leave scale on fixtures and inside water heaters over time. The county recently finished rebuilding and expanding its Olentangy sewer plant on Olentangy River Road to keep up with growth in Liberty and Orange townships. The soil is classic central Ohio clay, which is hard on buried downspout lines and keeps sump pumps busy.
High water pressure is one of the most common things we find in Liberty Township homes. When a pressure-reducing valve fails, pressure creeps up and puts extra strain on toilet fill valves, faucet cartridges, water heaters and appliance hoses. That's why our plumbers test pressure on every visit, no matter why we came out. We also check for a working expansion tank on the water heater and look at the age of your sump pump, so small fixes don't turn into big ones.
Before the first freeze, shut off and drain outdoor faucets, blow out irrigation and winterize any outdoor kitchen lines. If you travel over the holidays, set the thermostat no lower than the mid-50s and know where your main water shutoff is. In spring, test the sump pump and its battery backup. Flush the water heater once a year, and check the softener salt monthly.

It's a valve near where the water line enters your home that keeps pressure at a safe level. Most homes in the area have one. They wear out over time, and when they do, pressure can climb well above the typical 40 to 60 PSI. We test it on every visit.
If your home has a pressure-reducing valve or a check valve, heated water has nowhere to expand, and an expansion tank protects the water heater and plumbing. We'll check whether you have one and whether it still works.
It can be, if it's sized for how many showers and appliances run at once. We'll compare tank and tankless options, with prices, so you can choose.
Del-Co Water provides water, and the Delaware County Regional Sewer District handles sewer for most homes. The line from the street to your house is usually the homeowner's responsibility.
