Bidet Installation
There is no denying that a bidet adds comfort, convenience, and a higher standard of hygiene to the bathroom. Yet putting one in place is not as simple as bolting on a new fixture; a correct installation is contingent on your water supply, electrical access, the kind of bidet you have in mind, and the state of your current plumbing.

Homeowners have a number of options. A basic attachment is straightforward and hooks up to the toilet’s supply line. For more in the way of features like heated water, drying, and adjustable spray, a bidet toilet seat is the way to go. Integrated models put the two into one piece of equipment. Then there is the standalone bidet, which is a more involved proposition. It calls for its own drain and dedicated water connections, meaning we might have to open up a wall or floor and plumb new lines to accommodate it.
If a new toilet is part of the plan, we can look at both fixtures in tandem. Before we start, an inspection of the shutoff valve, flange, supply line, and drain is in order. Should we find a clog, a leak, or a worn-out connection, those issues have to be rectified first.
The bottom line on cost will be driven by the fixture type and what your bathroom looks like. An electric bidet, for instance, will run more if there is no ready electrical access. A standalone model entails more labor and possibly some changes to the flooring or drain work. Even the brand and configuration of your present toilet can be a factor with certain seats and attachments.

Winston-Salem has its share of older stock, from the 19th century homes in West Salem to those in Washington Park from the early 1900s. The valves, piping, and wiring in such a house predate modern bidets by some margin, so we make sure they are up to the task before we install anything.
Water quality in the area is generally good for bathroom fixtures. According to 2025 figures from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities, the average hardness is just 17.5 ppm, so you need not worry about the kind of mineral scale found in hard-water locales. But pressure and the age of the pipes can still have an impact. And while the clay and compacted soil of the Piedmont will not trouble a routine toilet-seat job, it becomes something to consider if an addition calls for underground work on the sewer or drain.
Most of Forsyth County falls under the purview of the City-County Inspections Division for permits and code enforcement, though Kernersville and High Point have their own jurisdictions. A permit is not always necessary; hooking up an attachment is not the same as running new plumbing for a standalone unit or making electrical changes for a powered one. If our work involves new water or drain connections, we will take the applicable residential codes into account.
