Garbage Disposal Repair
You do not think much of a garbage disposal until it decides to quit on you. You could be in the process of rinsing some dishes and suddenly have to deal with an uncharacteristic noise from the sink, or a clog and jam. On top of that there is the standing water and the accompanying odor. You have to be careful with these appliances; they are put through their paces. Put in an excess of bones, fibrous vegetables, coffee grounds or grease and you will likely clog the works. The motor may be humming away but the grinder is not turning, or the entire unit will come to a halt and start dripping under the sink with an odor to show for it.
Leaks can be traced to the body of the disposal, the sink flange, the dishwasher hook-up or the discharge pipe. In some cases it is as straightforward as the drain having been improperly plumbed to begin with. We are on hand to correct that.

An old system with corroded or narrow pipes can cause trouble for even a new disposal. And while the clay in our Piedmont soil has nothing to do with what is going on inside the unit, it is worth bearing in mind if an underground sewer line is causing a recurring backup. A plumber must be able to distinguish a simple disposal matter from a more extensive drainage issue.
We make it a point to have the right diagnosis before we do anything else. That means looking for power problems, a compromised seal, obstructions in the drain or a connection that is leaking; if the situation warrants it, we will also give the faucet and surrounding piping an once-over. When it comes to problems internal the disposal itself, there unfortunately isn’t a lot we can do to repair it. We see no reason to put in new equipment without cause. When the time comes and the insides are beyond repair, we are upfront with the homeowner about it and put them in a position to make the best decision. Should they opt for a replacement, we will handle the installation so it is properly suited to the sink’s electrical and drain configuration.
