North Druid Hills grew up after World War II. Wooded subdivisions of brick ranches and split-levels spread across the old farmland between Briarcliff Road and Clairmont Road, with names like Merry Hills, Biltmore Acres and Vistavia Hills. It's unincorporated DeKalb County, bounded by I-85 to the north and the South Fork of Peachtree Creek to the south, and a 2015 vote to make it a city failed by just 136 votes. Our shop is just west on Lambert Drive.
We're The Punctual Plumber, and we put money on it. If we're late, we pay you $5 a minute, up to $300. And with flexible financing on larger jobs, the right repair doesn't have to wait.
Emergency Plumbing: Burst pipes, sewer backups, water heater failures, gas smells and no-water calls, including nights and weekends.
Sewer Line Camera Inspection & Replacement: Homes built in the 1950s and '60s may still have original clay or Orangeburg sewer pipe, a tar-paper pipe that flattens and splits with age. We camera the line and show you exactly what you have.
Water Heaters & Tankless: Many ranch homes here have the water heater in the garage or a hall closet. A tankless unit frees that space, delivers hot water without running out, uses less energy because it isn't keeping a tank hot around the clock and typically lasts around 20 years, against 8 to 12 for a tank. Mid-century gas lines usually need upsizing, which we handle, and financing is available.
Repiping: Replacing galvanized steel and aging copper supply lines, whole-home or in sections.
Split-Level & Basement Plumbing: Ejector pumps, sump pumps and basement bathrooms in split-levels and homes built into slopes.
Water Filtration & Whole-Home Water Quality: In-home water testing, whole-home filtration, under-sink drinking water systems and sediment protection for water heaters, for better water at every tap and longer-lasting plumbing.
Drain Cleaning & Hydro Jetting: Kitchen, bath and main-line cleaning, with hydro jetting for roots and grease.
Gas Line Installation & Repair: Gas lines for ranges, dryers, water heaters and grills, plus testing of older piping.
Slab & Crawlspace Leak Detection: Finding hidden leaks under slabs and in crawlspaces.
Kitchen & Bath Remodel Plumbing: Rough-in and fixture installation for updating mid-century kitchens and baths.
Fixtures, Faucets, Toilets & Disposals: Repairs and replacements throughout the house.
Most of North Druid Hills was built between the 1950s and the 1970s: brick ranches, split-levels and some contemporary homes on wooded lots. Many are 60 to 70 years old and reaching the end of life for their original plumbing at about the same time. Sewer laterals from that era were often clay or Orangeburg, and supply lines may be galvanized steel or early copper.
North Druid Hills is unincorporated DeKalb County, and water and sewer come from the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management. The main concerns are age, roots and slopes. Lower levels that sit below the sewer line depend on pumps, and lines running through wooded yards attract roots.
Your water is treated by the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management to meet federal drinking water standards. But by the time it reaches your tap in North Druid Hills, it has traveled through miles of city mains and then through your own pipes, and in mid-century homes where galvanized and early copper supply lines are reaching the end of their life, that last stretch matters. When we test water in Intown homes, we regularly find the taste and smell of chlorine-based disinfectants, along with sediment and rust from aging pipe.
That affects more than your drinking glass. It's the water you shower in, brush your teeth with, wash clothes and dishes in and cook with. Sediment also wears out the equipment you've paid for, including water heaters, tankless units, faucets, dishwashers and washing machines, and shortens the life of the plumbing itself.
Every visit we make includes a free test of your water for chlorine, and we'll show you the results before recommending anything. If you want a fuller picture, ask about testing for sediment and other issues too. Your options include:
Whole-home filtration: Filters every tap and shower in the house, reducing chlorine taste and odor, sediment and rust, for better water for bathing, washing and cooking, and less wear on pipes, fixtures and appliances.
Drinking water systems: Under-sink reverse osmosis or carbon filtration for cleaner-tasting water for drinking, coffee and cooking.
Sediment protection for water heaters: A sediment filter ahead of a tank or tankless water heater helps it run efficiently and last longer.

North Druid Hills calls follow the age of the subdivision. An Orangeburg sewer line that finally collapses. A garage water heater that's been running for 15 years. A split-level's ejector pump that quits in a storm. That's why our techs check water heater age, pumps and the main shutoff on every visit, and recommend a camera inspection when the sewer line is original. Our trucks are stocked, and most calls are fixed on the first visit.
Mid-century homes in North Druid Hills tend to show the same warning signs. Call us if you notice:
A sewage smell or soggy patch in the yard, a possible sign of Orangeburg pipe
A garage water heater more than 10 years old
A split-level ejector pump that alarms or runs constantly
Slow, gurgling or repeatedly clogged drains
More than one fixture backing up at the same time
Hot water that runs out early or never gets hot enough
Damp spots, stains or a water bill that rises for no clear reason
On time: We arrive in the window we promised, in clean uniforms with shoe covers, or we pay you $5 a minute, up to $300.

There's no single price, because cost depends on where the problem is, how severe it is, the materials and the repair method. Replacing a pump or water heater is a contained job. Replacing an Orangeburg sewer line or repiping a whole ranch is bigger, and financing is available. Either way, you'll see the full price before we start, with no meter running, and larger jobs can be financed with monthly payments, subject to credit approval.

We had our water heater repaired and had a new water filter system installed after the technician suggested it. He was friendly and factual. After his visit we had to have another repair man to set the water heater temperature. Now it is working fine.

A full gas water heater installation -- quick install with courteous service. Jon Hare and Luke Stelly gave excellent advice and were finished with the install in less 3 hours (including purchasing the unit itself)! Thanks!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Service! Highly Recommend! I highly recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for all your plumbing needs, big or small! I recently needed to have a pop-up sink drain assembly replaced, and Bryson J. was the technician sent to assist me. Bryson was professional, knowledgeable, kind, and courteous throughout the entire process. He completed the repair efficiently, made sure everything was working properly, and left my bathroom clean and tidy afterward. It's refreshing to receive such excellent customer service! I truly appreciate Bryson's professionalism and attention to detail. Thank you, Bryson, for a job well done! I would definitely recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to anyone in need of reliable, quality plumbing services!

I am a new widow navigating a stressful plumbing issue. I met with Nick. He was the 3rd Plumber I was meeting that day. From the start he was friendly. Shook my hand. Asked what the problem was. I said I had a slow leak from the meter to my house but had no idea where it was. He explained how we could handle this issue. This is the 4th or 5th leak I have had! I decided to go for the full replace. It would be guaranteed for 15 years. So I did. Tripp and Nick showed up and both were professional, friendly and polite. They did an excellent job. Tripp went so far to get rid of the big black spider right next to my shut off valve in my basement! Goes above and beyond. After the repair they reseeded and laid down straw! From Adam in the office to Nick and Tripp was beyond pleased with the service. This company cares about their customers and it shows. Thank you Adam,Tripp and Nick!

Just had an old broken water heater replaced (30 to 50gallon) by Michael Gladstein. From The moment my wife and I met him, we felt confident in the entire company, appreciated his professionalism, how he took the time to clarify different options, notice we could have a larger tank; when other companies didn’t even give the option because the old tank was a 30g on second floor, with small space. He then installing it himself the next day with excellence. Really showing care for our home by through clean organized work, and his craftsmanship. Michael did great work from beginning to end! What’s stood out to me was that between the three quotes we got, Benjamin Franklin had the most competitive pricing. Only a few more Benjamin‘s difference for higher quality! Other companies quoted prices close to what Benjamin Franklin did but offered less. Highly recommend.

Jacob with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing was absolutely fantastic! He showed up on time, was courteous, knowledgeable, and made me feel like I could actually trust a plumber in my house—which, let’s be honest, is sometimes harder to find than a leak! 😂 He was so great that even my dog liked him, and my dog is usually a pretty good judge of character. If he passes the dog inspection, you know he’s good people! 🐾 Professional, trustworthy, and friendly from start to finish. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, give this man a raise—or at least let him know he’s officially been approved by the household security team! Would absolutely recommend Jacob. 10/10 stars, two thumbs up, and one very happy dog! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

They came out and inspected the old water heater and able to explain what was needed to bring a new one up to code, and while they were here they were able to shut off the gas valve to the hot water heater (which was antique) for my safety. They also told me what was needed for new duct work to the furnace. Very professional.
It may. Orangeburg was widely used in homes built in the 1950s and '60s, and it deforms and cracks with age. A camera inspection is the only reliable way to know.
Garage units work harder in winter and can be exposed to freezing temperatures. Insulating lines helps, and a tankless unit can be a good replacement.
Lower levels below the sewer line usually drain through an ejector pump. A failing pump, a stuck float or a clogged line can all cause backups.
Yes. We offer flexible financing with monthly payment options, subject to credit approval, on larger jobs like sewer line replacement, repiping and tankless water heaters. You'll get the up-front price first, then choose how to pay. Ask your technician or apply on our financing page.
