Druid Hills was one of Frederick Law Olmsted's last commissions. Joel Hurt conceived it, Asa Candler's family helped build it out and the result was a parkland suburb of grand houses along Ponce de Leon Avenue, where the six parks of Olmsted Linear Park still run end to end. Emory University, Fernbank Forest and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, and Callanwolde, the Gothic-Tudor Candler estate, are all here. Our shop is a short drive west on Lambert Drive.
We're The Punctual Plumber, and we put money on it. If we're late, we pay you $5 a minute, up to $300. And with flexible financing on larger jobs, the right repair doesn't have to wait.
Emergency Plumbing: Burst pipes, sewer backups, water heater failures, gas smells and no-water calls, including nights and weekends.
Sewer Line Camera Inspection & Replacement: Druid Hills homes sit on large, deeply wooded lots, often with long sewer laterals of original clay or cast iron. Roots from the old hardwoods are relentless. We camera the full line and replace only what's needed.
Whole-Home Repiping: Replacing galvanized and aging copper supply lines in historic homes, planned around plaster, millwork and original floors.
Water Heaters & Tankless: Large Druid Hills homes often need more hot water than one tank can deliver. A properly sized tankless system supplies several bathrooms at once, uses less energy because it isn't keeping tanks hot around the clock and typically lasts around 20 years, against 8 to 12 for a tank. We size and upgrade the gas line as part of the job, and financing is available.
Gas Line Installation & Repair: Gas lines for ranges, fireplaces, generators and outdoor kitchens, plus pressure testing of original gas piping.
Water Filtration & Whole-Home Water Quality: In-home water testing, whole-home filtration, under-sink drinking water systems and sediment protection for water heaters, for better water at every tap and longer-lasting plumbing.
Water Pressure & Recirculation: Hot-water recirculation for distant bathrooms and pressure diagnosis in large homes.
Drain Cleaning & Hydro Jetting: Kitchen, bath and main-line cleaning, with hydro jetting to clear roots from long runs.
Basement Plumbing & Pumps: Sump pumps, ejector pumps and backflow protection for basements on sloping lots.
Leak Detection: Finding hidden leaks behind plaster and under floors before they cause damage.
Fixtures & Bath Restoration: Fixture installs and repairs for restored kitchens and baths in historic homes.
Druid Hills was developed from the 1890s through the 1930s, and much of it is protected as the Druid Hills Historic District. Its houses are large Tudor, Colonial Revival, Mediterranean and Craftsman homes on generous lots, many with basements and original plumbing still in service. Long pipe runs, multiple bathrooms and decades of renovations make these some of the most complex residential systems in Atlanta.
Most of Druid Hills is unincorporated DeKalb County, served by the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management, while some areas near Emory are now inside the City of Atlanta. The issues here are age, size and trees: clay and cast-iron laterals full of roots, galvanized supply lines and hot water that takes too long to reach the far end of the house.
Your water is treated by the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management or the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management to meet federal drinking water standards. But by the time it reaches your tap in Druid Hills, it has traveled through miles of city mains and then through your own pipes, and in large historic homes with long runs of original galvanized and early copper pipe, that last stretch matters. When we test water in Intown homes, we regularly find the taste and smell of chlorine-based disinfectants, along with sediment and rust from aging pipe.
That affects more than your drinking glass. It's the water you shower in, brush your teeth with, wash clothes and dishes in and cook with. Sediment also wears out the equipment you've paid for, including water heaters, tankless units, faucets, dishwashers and washing machines, and shortens the life of the plumbing itself.
Every visit we make includes a free test of your water for chlorine, and we'll show you the results before recommending anything. If you want a fuller picture, ask about testing for sediment and other issues too. Your options include:
Whole-home filtration: Filters every tap and shower in the house, reducing chlorine taste and odor, sediment and rust, for better water for bathing, washing and cooking, and less wear on pipes, fixtures and appliances.
Drinking water systems: Under-sink reverse osmosis or carbon filtration for cleaner-tasting water for drinking, coffee and cooking.
Sediment protection for water heaters: A sediment filter ahead of a tank or tankless water heater helps it run efficiently and last longer.

Druid Hills calls are often about distance and age. A sewer line that fails 100 feet from the house under a mature oak. A bathroom on the far side of the house that waits minutes for hot water. A main shutoff that hasn't moved in 40 years. That's why our techs check the main shutoff, water pressure and water heater capacity on every visit, and recommend a camera inspection when the lateral is original. Our trucks are stocked, and most calls are fixed on the first visit.
In a large historic Druid Hills home, small symptoms can point to long, old lines. Call us if you notice:
Hot water that takes minutes to reach a far bathroom
Recurring backups in a basement or lower bathroom
A main shutoff valve that won't turn
Slow, gurgling or repeatedly clogged drains
More than one fixture backing up at the same time
Hot water that runs out early or never gets hot enough
Damp spots, stains or a water bill that rises for no clear reason
On time: We arrive in the window we promised, in clean uniforms with shoe covers, or we pay you $5 a minute, up to $300.
Diagnosis: We find the root cause, using a high-definition camera on drain and sewer lines when needed.
Free water test: Every visit includes a free chlorine test of your water, with the results explained on the spot.
Up-front price: You get the exact price, with good, better and best options and financing available, before any work begins.
Clean finish: We complete the work and clean up before we leave.
There's no single price, because cost depends on where the problem is, how severe it is, the materials and the repair method. A drain clearing is a modest bill. Replacing a 100-foot sewer lateral under mature hardwoods or repiping a 1920s estate home is a major project, and financing is available. Either way, you'll see the full price before we start, with no meter running, and larger jobs can be financed with monthly payments, subject to credit approval.
The On-Time Guarantee: If we're late, we pay you $5 for every minute, up to $300.

We had our water heater repaired and had a new water filter system installed after the technician suggested it. He was friendly and factual. After his visit we had to have another repair man to set the water heater temperature. Now it is working fine.

A full gas water heater installation -- quick install with courteous service. Jon Hare and Luke Stelly gave excellent advice and were finished with the install in less 3 hours (including purchasing the unit itself)! Thanks!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Service! Highly Recommend! I highly recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for all your plumbing needs, big or small! I recently needed to have a pop-up sink drain assembly replaced, and Bryson J. was the technician sent to assist me. Bryson was professional, knowledgeable, kind, and courteous throughout the entire process. He completed the repair efficiently, made sure everything was working properly, and left my bathroom clean and tidy afterward. It's refreshing to receive such excellent customer service! I truly appreciate Bryson's professionalism and attention to detail. Thank you, Bryson, for a job well done! I would definitely recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to anyone in need of reliable, quality plumbing services!

I am a new widow navigating a stressful plumbing issue. I met with Nick. He was the 3rd Plumber I was meeting that day. From the start he was friendly. Shook my hand. Asked what the problem was. I said I had a slow leak from the meter to my house but had no idea where it was. He explained how we could handle this issue. This is the 4th or 5th leak I have had! I decided to go for the full replace. It would be guaranteed for 15 years. So I did. Tripp and Nick showed up and both were professional, friendly and polite. They did an excellent job. Tripp went so far to get rid of the big black spider right next to my shut off valve in my basement! Goes above and beyond. After the repair they reseeded and laid down straw! From Adam in the office to Nick and Tripp was beyond pleased with the service. This company cares about their customers and it shows. Thank you Adam,Tripp and Nick!

Just had an old broken water heater replaced (30 to 50gallon) by Michael Gladstein. From The moment my wife and I met him, we felt confident in the entire company, appreciated his professionalism, how he took the time to clarify different options, notice we could have a larger tank; when other companies didn’t even give the option because the old tank was a 30g on second floor, with small space. He then installing it himself the next day with excellence. Really showing care for our home by through clean organized work, and his craftsmanship. Michael did great work from beginning to end! What’s stood out to me was that between the three quotes we got, Benjamin Franklin had the most competitive pricing. Only a few more Benjamin‘s difference for higher quality! Other companies quoted prices close to what Benjamin Franklin did but offered less. Highly recommend.

Jacob with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing was absolutely fantastic! He showed up on time, was courteous, knowledgeable, and made me feel like I could actually trust a plumber in my house—which, let’s be honest, is sometimes harder to find than a leak! 😂 He was so great that even my dog liked him, and my dog is usually a pretty good judge of character. If he passes the dog inspection, you know he’s good people! 🐾 Professional, trustworthy, and friendly from start to finish. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, give this man a raise—or at least let him know he’s officially been approved by the household security team! Would absolutely recommend Jacob. 10/10 stars, two thumbs up, and one very happy dog! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

They came out and inspected the old water heater and able to explain what was needed to bring a new one up to code, and while they were here they were able to shut off the gas valve to the hot water heater (which was antique) for my safety. They also told me what was needed for new duct work to the furnace. Very professional.
Most of Druid Hills is unincorporated DeKalb County, served by the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management. Some areas near Emory are now inside the City of Atlanta. The private sewer lateral to the public main is generally the homeowner's responsibility either way.
Long pipe runs in large homes. A recirculation system or a properly placed tankless unit solves it. We'll recommend the simplest fix for your layout.
Recurring backups, slow drains and gurgling toilets are the signs. A camera inspection shows the condition of the whole line, so you only replace what's damaged.
Yes. We offer flexible financing with monthly payment options, subject to credit approval, on larger jobs like sewer line replacement, whole-home repiping and tankless water heater systems.
