4 Reasons for Low Water Pressure

Water pressure issues are a common problem for a lot of homeowners in Orlando, Florida. Low water pressure can complicate even the simplest of tasks, like doing dishes, taking a shower or washing your laundry. Even though many causes of low water pressure require fairly easy fixes, it’s always best to leave any repairs in the hands of a professional plumber. Clogged aerators, corroded plumbing, or a faulty pressure regulator or water softener are common causes of low water pressure.

Clogged Aerators

If you notice it’s only a specific fixture that’s receiving low water pressure, there’s a good chance it has a clogged aerator. An aerator keeps water from splashing everywhere when you turn on the faucet. Over time, the aerator becomes clogged with sediment and calcium deposits. In some cases, simply cleaning the aerator will fix the low water pressure issue. In other cases, you need to replace your old aerator.

Corroded Plumbing

Homes over 20 years old often have older pipes that corrode. Even though it can be expensive to replace the pipes, upgrading your home’s plumbing is usually the best route to take to fix water pressure issues. Corroded plumbing left unattended can result in major water damage and will increase your water bills.

Faulty Pressure Regulator

The pressure regulator controls the amount of water that flows through a faucet, shower head or pipe. Pressure regulators can become damaged, resulting in poor water pressure. Replacing one of these mechanisms requires the expertise of a professional plumber. If you attempt to fix it yourself, you’re likely to do more harm than good.

Faulty Water Softener

A water softener treats the water flowing through your pipes by filtrating it before you use it. However, a water softener that’s too small or improperly installed will reduce water pressure. This is another problem to leave in the hands of a professional plumber.
