Avoiding Summer Plumbing Emergencies

When is it appropriate to seek emergency plumbing services in Montgomery County this summer? Knowing which problems are minor hiccups and which require immediate professional help can save you time, money, and hassle this summer.

Low Water Pressure

Not an emergency in and of itself, but low water pressure could be a sign of bigger problems. If it happens intermittently, you're probably safe, but prolonged low water pressure could mean pipe system problems including clogged drains and corroded or broken pipes. If you notice low water pressure for an extended period of time, or experience any flooding as a result of the problems listed above, it's definitely time to call the professionals.

Broken Washing Machine Hoses

With the kids out of school and playing outside more, you're bound to have more laundry than usual. Replace the washer's hoses if necessary (ideally, this should be done every 3 years). Check hoses for bulges, leaks, and cracks, and move the machine at least 4 inches from the wall to avoid causing these damages. As always, never leave home with the washer running and remove dryer lint after each load. If you inadvertently run a washer with broken hoses, it could create a plumbing emergency worthy of the pros.

Toilet Running

Also not an immediate emergency, but if a running toilet doesn't stop with normal tweaking and lasts an exceptionally long time, it can overflow, stop working, or at the very least cause water bills to skyrocket. If you're not sure how to stop an incessantly running toilet, it might be time to seek emergency plumbing services in Plymouth Meeting or any of Benjamin Franklin Plumbers' services areas.

Moldy/Damp Flooring or Drywall

This is your full blown emergency. Unusual dampness in a floor or wall means a leak is already in progress and it needs to be taken care of right away. Don't attempt to fix this level of problem alone. Call a professional plumber immediately.
