Jumping right in – literally

One theory is that the physical state of being submerged in water and the sound of the water can help to relax the mind, allowing for creativity and increased problem-solving. The overall effects of the relaxing environment, a hot shower or bath, lets the brain destress. When the brain is in a relaxed state, it is more likely to make connections between seemingly unrelated ideas or your most brilliant ideas EVER.

Distraction – or lack thereof:

The calming environment created by the shower may also reduce distractions, allowing for better concentration and focus. Additionally, the physical action of showering may create a feeling of “flow,” which allows the mind to wander and make connections between ideas. Also, the lack of distractions in the shower can help focus the mind, allowing the individual to think more deeply and come up with creative solutions.

From a Washington Post article: “In a 2019 study, 98 professional writers and 87 physicists recorded their most creative idea each day, as well as what they were doing and thinking when it struck them. 20 percent of their most meaningful ideas came while doing something else — washing dishes or taking a shower.”
