I had already been without hot water for over a week when these two neatly dressed, extremely polite, and really good-looking young men filed into my house. They were from Benjamin Franklin plumbing and were going to inspect my water heater and give me an estimate for its repair; which they quickly did. I liked the way Aaron took the time to explain to me the reasons that the old water heater needed to be replaced instead of being repaired, but my heart sank when I saw the estimate. When I last bought a water 6heater some 20 yrs ago, the heater cost about $600 and the total with labor was about $1100. The current price was $2750! My retirement income was $1400/month so I sadly told Aaron that I couldn't afford a new heater, especially since my car had bitten the dust three weeks before. When you live alone in a rural area, you must have a car, so I was going to have to get used to cold water. Aaron said he would try to find some charities that were willing to help someone like me, but after he'd spent over an hour calling around without success, I gave up hope and told them goodbye. Imagine my stunned surprise when Benjamin Franklin plumbing called me several mornings later and said that they were combining the offers from several different charities to have enough to pay for a brand new water heater plus installation! Aaron and his crew showed up that afternoon and cleaned out my water heater closet.(They wouldn't let me do it.) They drained the old unit, detached it from my plumbing, then removed it from my property. Next they wheeled in a new one and installed it with all the bells and whistles. For example, they put the tank in a drip tray, so if it should (God forbid) leak, then my floor will be protected. This one also has a tiny tank built in above it to catch any overflow from up there. Pretty neat. The guys worked tirelessly but efficiently for a couple of hours. When it was done, they cleaned the work area and took away the trash. They never let me do any of the work, and they never took a single dime. And it works great! I have been so blessed by my encounter with Benjamin Franklin. I had been slowly spiraling down into depression, but now I'm walking with a lighter step. I feel special and full of hope again. This really did happen to ME! It's incredible!

Never a convenient time when water pipe breakages happen! Monday evening on a holiday. I called Benjamin Franklin at 9:20 pm with an emergency call. Tom K. was the service tech assigned. He contacted me within 30 minutes of my call to let me know he was enroute. He showed up well presented, clean cut and in uniform. Very well mannered, professional, and knowledgeable. After I explained what happened and the action I had taken, he explained my options. He was thorough and made sure I understood everything. We decided on the least costly option knowing that after he opened a small hole in the drywall would determine whether I would have a larger problem or not. Fortunately for me it was not the worse case scenario and it was something Tom could fix. He was finished within a couple hours and I had water again. I cannot express enough, my gratitude for Tom K. and Benjamin Franklin. I will not hesitate to contact them for any future plumbing repairs and/or new installations.

Called for an estimate and they had a tech out to my house within 20 minutes on a Friday afternoon. Michael looked at the hot water heater (why I called) and did a free home inspection while he was there. He was quick and explained everything and answered my questions. They scheduled me for Monday, and Michael came back out to replace my hot water heater and fix my bathtub handles and faucets that were leaking. Whoever had done my repairs before hadn’t used the correct parts, making the work a little more difficult than expected, but Michael got the correct parts needed and got the job done! The pricing was reasonable, much less than other places I had gotten quotes from (one wanted $1000 more!), and the estimate was free which is harder to find nowadays! Several other places wanted to charge $50-$75 just to come look at it. I’m glad I found Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. I will definitely use them again should I need anything else and I recommend you use them as well! Michael was phenomenal and took the time to answer my questions and explain everything in a way that made sense!

In many homes, the main shutoff is near the water meter, along an exterior wall, or where the main line enters the house. Turn the handle clockwise to stop the water (or rotate a lever valve a quarter turn so it is perpendicular to the pipe). If the valve is stuck, leaking, or hard to reach, a licensed plumber can replace it so you can shut water off quickly when you need to.
Most wipes do not break down like toilet paper, so they can build up in drain lines and cause clogs over time. If you want fewer backups, stick to toilet paper only and keep wipes, paper towels, and hygiene products out of the toilet.
Chemical drain cleaners can damage some pipes and seals, and they can make a blockage harder to clear if the product sits in the line. If a plunger and simple mechanical cleaning (like a small drain snake) does not solve the problem, it is usually smarter to call a plumber for professional drain cleaning.
That banging is often water hammer, which happens when flowing water stops suddenly and the pressure jolts the pipes. Fixes can include securing loose pipes, adjusting water pressure, or adding water hammer arrestors. A plumber can pinpoint the cause and stop the noise before it leads to leaks.
Cloudy water is often trapped air in the line and typically clears after a minute. Discoloration can also happen when plumbing is disturbed or sediment gets stirred up. If the issue keeps happening, affects multiple fixtures, or comes with an odor or taste change, it is a good idea to have a local plumber inspect the plumbing system.
If the home is older, has had recent renovations, or you notice slow drains, stains, or past leak repairs, a plumbing inspection can help you avoid surprises after closing. An inspection typically checks visible supply lines, drains, fixtures, shutoff valves, and signs of hidden problems.
High pressure can stress pipes, hoses, and fixtures, and it can shorten the life of appliances. A quick first step is to use a pressure gauge on an outdoor spigot to see if the pressure seems excessive. If it is consistently high, a plumber may recommend adjusting or installing a pressure-reducing valve to protect your plumbing.
Backflow protection helps keep contaminated water from flowing back into clean water lines, especially with irrigation systems, hose bibbs, or certain plumbing setups. Requirements vary by area and system type, so the safest approach is to have a licensed plumber confirm what applies to your property and handle any needed testing or installation. If you want help from a local team, Benjamin Franklin Plumbing can walk you through the options without making it complicated.
