Dishwasher odor in the kitchen isn’t a problem anyone wants to experience. Fortunately, getting rid of odor isn’t a difficult task, and doesn’t require you to call the plumbers in Katy, with the exception of when odor is due to the need for drain cleaning. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing® of Rosenberg can provide the plumbing services you need.
A common cause of dishwasher odor is due to bacteria from decomposing bits of food on the filter. You can easily prevent this by wiping the dishes down before placing them in the dishwasher. It’s understandable that homeowner’s purchase the appliance with a built-in garbage disposal to
take care of the food bits, and don’t want to take the time to pre-clean dishes running through a cycle.
The other solution is to provide routine cleaning of the filter per the instructions in the owner’s manual. A clogged filter can result in the appliance being unable to drain. In addition, cleaning of other components should be provided as follows:
·Inspect the seals around the door and the float. Use a damp, soft toothbrush with a drop of dish liquid to clean the seals. Rinse the seals down with a wet cloth and allow to air dry. Lift the float to check for debris accumulation underneath. A dirty float can cause an elevated water level during operation and may result in leaking of the appliance.
·If the seals have molded and cleaning failed to remove it, brush with vinegar or lemon juice. If necessary, you may use a paste of baking soda and water. Rinse and leave the door open to dry.
·Check the sprayer arm for blockage, and remove the glass with tweezers.
·Place 1 to 2 cups of vinegar in a heavy container each month to remove hard water buildup and soap scum. In addition, vinegar will deodorize the appliance.
·A simple means of maintaining an odor free dishwasher is to leave the door cracked between cycles to allow the appliance to dry, and air to circulate.
·You can leave a dish of baking soda in the appliance to assist in absorbing odor. If you forget and send it through a cycle, it won’t hurt a thing.
·Use of a liquid or gel dishwashing agent will help to prevent soap scum.
·The filter can be soaked in a vinegar and water solution to remove hard water build-up. The filter can be cleaned with a soft brush and dish liquid.
