Gas Line Repair for Houston Homeowners
There are many things you need to know when you purchase your Houston home, and one of those important things is how to detect a gas leak. When there is a leak in your gas line, there are signs that you need to smell, see, and react to to ensure the safety of your home and your family. When do you call someone? Don’t wait. If you suspect a gas leak call your gas company or the fire department and vacate your home immediately. If they confirm there is a leak and you need gas line repair, call us immediately to get the job done right.
Natural gas is colorless and odorless, so if you smell a “rotten egg” odor, that is your first indicator. This smell is added to the natural gas for safety. Another sign you might have a leak is a blowing or hissing sound coming from your gas equipment. It goes without mentioning that you should probably be aware of which appliances you have in your home that are gas-supplied.
If you are outside, check the ground where the line was installed. Do you see dirt or debris blowing or bubbling up? If the area is wet, those bubbles might be more pronounced. Also, check any grass or vegetation near a gas line. If it is discolored or has died, this may be another indication of a leak. In this case, a gas line repair is probably in your future.
If you do suspect a gas leak, again, leave the area immediately and warn others to stay away until the issue is resolved. Do not turn on any electric switch as this could cause a spark and ignite the gas. Obviously, do not use a lighter or strike a match at this time. Always exercise caution and if you’re not sure, call anyways. It’s better safe than sorry with a potential gas leak.
