Water is a precious and limited resource, especially during times of drought. At Ben Franklin, there are several plumbing tips we recommend that can help you conserve water in your community by minimizing the amount your home uses on a regular basis.

Saving Water in Your Home

Our plumbing tips for saving water are generally easy to apply and follow. To conserve water in your home:

  • Don’t flush anything but toilet paper – Every time you flush things such as facial tissues, cigarette butts, or other small pieces of trash down your toilet, you are wasting water.
  • Turn off the water when you brush your teeth – This is one of the water conservation plumbing tips that is extremely easy to follow. Every time you brush your teeth, turn off the faucet after you get your toothbrush wet.
  • Use your dishwasher and washing machine for full loads—Instead of doing incomplete loads of laundry throughout the week or running your dishwasher when it only has a couple of bowls in it, wait until both of these appliances are full to run them.
  • Minimize the length of time you spend in the shower – Just cutting down your shower by a few minutes can save several gallons of water.

You can also conserve water by rinsing your razor in the sink, only using your garbage disposal when necessary, and not leaving the faucet running whenever you wash dishes by hand.
